The San Juan NF completed treatments for a thistle infestation in the remote Bear Creek drainage on the Dolores Ranger District. 177 acres and 10.4 miles of trail in the popular recreation destination were treated for Canada and musk thistle. The infestation has made sections of the trail difficult to traverse and has reduced wildlife habitat and rangeland vegetation quality. This treatment should improve rangeland condition, big game winter range habitat, and recreation experiences.
